Chun Wo's Third “Innovation Student Awards” Open for Application Encourages Creativity and Innovation in Engineering For Sustainable Development

(Nov 23, 2022, Hong Kong) – As the smart technology and digitalization trend grows unabated, the third edition of “Chun Wo Innovation Student Awards” (the “Awards”) organized by Chun Wo Development Holdings Limited (“Chun Wo”), a key member of Asia Allied Infrastructure Holdings Limited (“Asia Allied Infrastructure” or “the Group”) (stock code:00711), is officially launched and open for application until 16 December 2022 to explore sustainable engineering solutions and innovations for social advancement.

Under the theme of “Engineers for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, the Awards focus on three scopes: Restoration, Conservation, and Symbiosis. Each participating team could choose one of these sub-themes and conceive engineering solutions to promote the world's sustainable development and maintain ecological balance.

Sr Stephen Lee, Chairman of Chun Wo Construction Holdings Company Limited, said, “Chun Wo has always been committed to nurturing young talents for the industry and encouraging them to create engineering solutions by using their knowledge and imagination to inject new thinking into society. The Awards allow participants to unleash their creativity as a cradle for new technologies and skills, and also promote the connection between human beings and the environment to achieve a better and more sustainable future.”

All tertiary students from Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area are eligible to participate in CWISA. Each team can comprise up to eight members, with at least one member in an engineering-related discipline. There will be three winners - Gold, Silver, and Bronze - and three Merit Awards to acknowledge outstanding ideas. The Gold Award-winning team will receive a cash prize of HK$100,000. The cash prizes of the Gold, Silver, Bronze, and three merit awards together amount to HK$200,000. In addition to the cash prize, Chun Wo may provide a comprehensive package of resources and assistance for the winning teams to put their ideas into practice.

The judging panel of the third “Chun Wo Innovation Student Awards” includes Ir Fong Hok Shing, Michael, JP, Director of Civil Engineering and Development Department; Ms. Cally Chan, General Manager of Microsoft Hong Kong and Macau; Mr. Jason Chiu, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Startup Council; Ms. Karen Ho, Head of Corporate and Community Sustainability for WWF-Hong Kong; Prof. Yuen Kwok Kit, Richard, Chair Professor of Architectural Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong; Mr. Michael Yung, Strategic Advisor, of Google Cloud, Google (Hong Kong) Limited and Sr. Stephen Lee, Chairman of Chun Wo Construction Holdings Company Limited.

Chun Wo Innovation Student Awards

The CWISA is a biannual award established by Chun Wo Development Holdings Limited (Chun Wo) in 2018, which aims to empower the next generation of innovators and stimulate young minds to develop innovative engineering solutions that can help cities become more connected and sustainable. The theme of the first CWISA in 2018 was “Engineers Save the World”, participants were required to address a sustainable development issue in a developing country according to the 17 sustainable development goals that United Nations has entered into force. In 2020, CWISA was extended to the Greater Bay Area. It allows the full-time students of tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to participate in this Awards under the theme of “Engineer for a Smarter Future”, which encourages the students to build a smart city through an engineering approach.
