Chun Wo started the construction business in 1968 as a sole proprietorship that undertook private sector construction. Its listing on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock code:711) in February 1993 strengthened it financially for further development and growth.

The Group focuses on the development of construction business for nearly 40 years, it has become a renowned construction conglomerate in Hong Kong which has the capability to undertake large-scale and wide-ranging construction, including civil engineering, building, foundation construction, electrical & mechanical installation and fitting out works in both the public and private sectors.

The majority of our contracts are secured through the Group's wholly-owned subsidiaries, including building construction, foundations, civil engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, maintenance works and fitting out works. Our major subsidiaries include:

Chun Wo Construction and Engineering Co., Ltd. (Chun Wo C&E) and Chun Wo Building Construction Ltd. (Chun Wo Building) have long been established since 1968 to undertake construction business in Hong Kong. Chun Wo C&E holds major construction registrations administered by the Hong Kong Government and other statutory bodies for carrying out public sector civil engineering and building construction, while Chun Wo Building was established to carry out private sector building construction.

Apart from being a general contractor, the Group is a specialised contractor in several fields and keeps on seeking diversification opportunities. For instance, we had completed the construction component of a major landfill restoration project, the railway trackwork construction in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Other areas of specialised construction in which the Group has had substantial experience include trenchless micro-tunnelling and railway tunneling.

In 1992, Chun Wo Foundations Ltd. (Chun Wo Foundations) was established to undertake foundation and specialised underground construction works. It is equipped with substantial plant and machinery for large diameter bored piles and diaphragm wall construction.

Chun Wo E&M Engineering Ltd. (Chun Wo E&M) was established in 1998 to undertake electrical and mechanical (E&M) works. It supports E&M installations under the Group's various projects in civil, building and alternation works. The coordinated support to the building team is satisfactory and facilitates the smooth running of these projects. In addition, Chun Wo E&M manages direct E&M contracts in air conditioning, fire service and building services installation with external clients.

Fitting out work is another area of development. Chun Wo Elegant Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd. (Chun Wo Elegant), was established in 1995 to undertake the fitting out work. For example, Maritime Square at the MTR Tsing Yi Station and "Paradise Mall" at MTR Heng Fa Chuen Station are the major fitting out contracts where the high level of performance was commended by our client, MTR Corporation.

Pre-stressing work is our new area of development. A joint venture company was established to undertake the pre-stressing work for highway bridges, civil engineering works and buildings, heavy lifting and stay cables work for civil engineering and building projects.

Currently, the Group has been diversifying the business into property development, property management and security services, as well as investments. The businesses were run by the following subsidiaries:

Rich Resource Development Ltd. (Rich Resource) was established in 2000 to undertake the property development business. The Group had the first opportunity to participate both as a developer and a contractor in the Private Sector Participation Scheme (PSPS) project when it, as a joint venture partner, was awarded a contract for 2,230 housing units at Hammer Hill Road in March 1997. Following this, the "Grandeur Terrace", awarded in May 2000 for 4,100 housing units at Tin Shui Wai, is the largest PSPS project in recent years. With extensive use of pre-cast construction, it attracted the attention of many developers and industry counterparts. The Group's current property development above the MTR Choi Hung Station - "No. 8 Clear Water Bay Road" is a landmark project showing our management capability in developing a property at the centre of the busiest transportation hub in East Kowloon District.

City Security Company Ltd. (City Security) was established in 1997 to provide guarding and security services. In 2000, the Group expanded the business into property management services to residential estates and offices in Hong Kong through the acquisition of City Professional Management Ltd. (City Professional).

In addition, the Group has diversified the business into Mainland China and other Asia region. The year 1991 marked the Group's successful expansion of its business into private sector building construction and property development in Mainland China through the establishment of Chun Wo (China) Ltd. (Chun Wo China). It now has representative offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou and property development project offices in Shijiazhuang, Yangzhou and Yixing.

The Group focuses on priority of customer satisfaction, enhancement of technical capabilities, diversification of business, strengthening of financial and human resources, and broadening of clientele.  In November 2007, the Group officially changed its name to “Chun Wo Development Holdings Limited”, and will continue to grow with strategic diversification and investment.
